A material is one thing you are learning from: a web page, a document, a lecture, a podcast episode, a book. Everything else in CogniPage hangs off materials — cards, quizzes, analytics and reflections are all scoped to them.

## Where materials come from

- **Automatically**
  , when you read a tracked document, page or video — one material per source, created the first time it is captured.
- **By hand**

## Finding your way around

The toolbar above the list narrows it down:

| Control | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Search | Matches material names as you type. |
| All | Everything, unfiltered. |
| On-screen | Read from a window on this computer. |
| Hard copy | Scanned from a printed page with your camera. |
| Watched & listened | Captured from video or audio. |
| Sort | Recently updated (default), oldest first, or name A–Z. |

Each row can be renamed or deleted. Deleting a material removes what was captured from it.

## Inside a material

Open one and it splits into two views:

**Structured**

The readable document CogniPage wrote from your captured passages — ordered, headed and cleaned up, so a fragmented capture reads like a chapter. Built with AI, on request.

**Segments**

The raw captured passages in the order they arrived, each editable and removable. This is the source of truth; the structured document is derived from it.

Where the material came from a page or file, the external-link button beside the title reopens the original source.

## Editing what was captured

Capture is not perfect, especially from scans and transcripts. In the **Segments** view you can correct the text of any segment or delete one outright. It is worth doing before generating cards: everything downstream is written from these passages, so a fixed typo here fixes every card that would have inherited it.
