# Notes

> Your own writing, organised into folders by AI and linked to the concepts it touches.

Notes are the part of CogniPage you write yourself — plus every passage you [highlighted](https://cognipage.io/docs/highlights) with the shortcut. Filing them is done for you, so a note costs you nothing beyond writing it.

**Where** Notes

## The layout

A folder tree and note list on the left, the note itself on the right. Notes with no folder yet sit under **Unfiled**. The search box matches across every note's title and body.

## Writing

- Give a note a title, or leave it — AI writes one for you.
- Select text in the editor to format it: headings, bold, italic, lists, quotes, code and links.
- The folder is a dropdown on the note itself, so refiling is one click.
- Changes save as you write; there is no save button to forget.

## Folders

Create, rename and delete folders from the panel on the left. Deleting a folder does not delete the notes inside it — they return to *Unfiled*.

You rarely need to create folders by hand: when a highlight arrives, CogniPage files it into the folder that fits, and creates one when nothing does.

## What AI adds

Signed in and with credits available, each captured highlight is quietly enriched:

**Title**

A short, specific name — better than the first line of the passage.

**Summary**

The gist in a sentence or two, so a long clipping is scannable.

**Folder**

Filed with related notes rather than dumped in an inbox.

**Concept links**

The ideas it touches, linked to the same ideas in your other notes — this is what the [Knowledge Map](https://cognipage.io/docs/analytics) draws.

The original captured text is always kept alongside your own edits, so enrichment never overwrites what the source actually said.

## Notes or materials?

**Materials** are what you read — captured for you, and the source of flashcards and assessments. **Notes** are what you chose to keep and what you thought about it. They meet on the Knowledge Map, where a note's concepts connect to the material they came from.
