# Privacy and your data

Reading along means seeing what is on your screen, which is a serious thing to ask for. This page is the practical side of that: where your reading is kept, what ever leaves your machine, and how to remove any of it. ## Where your reading lives

Everything CogniPage captures is written to a single folder on your own computer:

- **macOS**
  —
  `~/Library/Application Support/io.CogniPage.CogniPage`
- **Windows**
  —
  `%APPDATA%\CogniPage\CogniPage`

That folder holds the local database (materials, passages, notes, cards, review history), your preferences, the diagnostic logs, and — only if you ever used a watch-along — the downloaded speech model. Diagnostic logs never contain your reading text.

## What leaves your device

Text leaves it in exactly two situations, both of which you control:

**You use an AI feature**

The relevant passage is sent to our backend and our AI provider, solely to produce that one result.

**You enable sync**

Your materials and progress travel over an encrypted connection so another device can pick them up.

Both require an account. Without one, CogniPage still captures, schedules and lets you review — offline, on that machine only. **Your content is never used to train AI models**, and it is never sold.

## What CogniPage never does

- No keystroke logging. It asks only how many seconds have passed since your last input of any kind, to tell whether you are still reading — never what that input was.
- No microphone access, ever. It requests no microphone permission at all.
- No stored screenshots or page photographs.
- No capture of passwords, credentials or payment fields.
- No bundled software, toolbars, extensions or advertising.
- No changes to your browser, search engine, home page, proxy, certificates or hosts file.
- No autostart. It runs when you open it.

## The controls you have

| To… | Do this |
| --- | --- |
| Stop all new capture right now | *Settings → Tracking → Track nothing*. |
| Stop capturing one site or document | Find it in *Settings → Tracking* and block or forget it. |
| Withdraw a system permission | Turn it off in your OS privacy settings — no need to uninstall. |
| Delete one thing you read | Delete the material in *Materials*, or a single passage in its Segments view. |
| Stop sending anything to us | Sign out. Capture and review carry on locally. |
| Delete everything, locally and in the cloud | *Settings → Developer → Clear all data*. |
| Delete your account entirely | Email [support@cognipage.io](mailto:support@cognipage.io). |

> **Clear all data cannot be undone.**
>
> It permanently deletes your local database rows and, if you are signed in, your synced content on our servers. There is one confirmation step, and nothing after it.
