# Troubleshooting

> Nothing is being captured, a video is not recognised, notifications are silent — start here.

Most problems are one of a handful of things. Work down the list for whichever symptom matches.

## Nothing is being captured

1. **Check the permissions**
On Home, the permission cards should read *Active*. If Accessibility says *Action needed*, capture cannot work at all — see [Granting permissions](https://cognipage.io/docs/permissions). After granting it on macOS, quit CogniPage from the menu-bar icon and reopen it; macOS often only hands the permission to a freshly launched app.
2. **Check the tracking mode**
*Settings → Tracking*. If it is on **Track nothing**, capture is paused. Switch it back to *Ask each time*.
3. **Check the source was approved**
Look under *Allowed* in the same panel. If the site or document is under **Blocked**, forget it so you are asked again. If it is in neither list, bring the window to the front and answer the prompt.
4. **Check the window publishes text**
Scanned PDFs and some readers expose nothing readable. Grant **Screen Recording** and CogniPage will read them from the pixels instead, on your device.
5. **Make sure you are actually dwelling**
Only paragraphs you spend time on are kept. Scrolling quickly through a page is deliberately not enough.

## Firefox on macOS captures nothing

Firefox on macOS frequently publishes no accessibility tree at all, so there is no text for CogniPage to read. Grant **Screen Recording** so it can recognise the text from the window instead — or read that page in another browser.

## The captured text is the wrong part of the page

Menus, sidebars or page furniture instead of the article: press `⌘` `⇧` `T` (`Ctrl` `⇧` `T` on Windows) and draw a box around the text you actually want. The area is remembered for that page. See [What gets captured](https://cognipage.io/docs/capture-areas).

## A video is not being picked up

- Check
*Settings → Watch along → Capture what you watch and listen to*
  is on.
- Media is approved one item at a time — make sure you answered the prompt for
  *this*
  video.
- Where the service publishes no captions, switch on
**Transcribe when there are no captions**
  and download a speech model.
- Screen Recording (macOS) is required to tap an application's audio.

## No flashcards were created

- Cards are never made automatically. Answer the
  *Finished Session?*
  prompt, use
  *Assess "…"*
  in the tray, or press
  **Recall this**
  under
  *Waiting for you*
  on Home.
- Generating cards needs an account with credits — check
  [Account](https://cognipage.io/docs/account)
  .
- Offline, the request is queued and the cards appear once you reconnect.
- If nothing was captured from the session, there is nothing to build from — see above.

## Notifications are silent

- *Settings → Notifications*
: is the master switch on, and the category you expect?
- Press
  **Send test notification**
. If that does not arrive, the block is in your operating system — allow CogniPage in its notification settings, then switch the master switch back on.
- Check quiet hours are not covering the time you are testing.

## A keyboard shortcut does nothing

Another application claimed it first. See [Keyboard shortcuts](https://cognipage.io/docs/shortcuts).

## The book scanner will not capture

- Watch the legibility meter — it tells you what is wrong. Below about half, capture is refused rather than saving unusable text.
- Even, indirect light; no glare on the page.
- One page filling the frame, held flat and square on.
- Prop the camera on something. Motion blur is the most common cause.

## The window disappeared

Closing CogniPage tucks it into the menu bar (macOS) or system tray (Windows) rather than quitting. Click that icon, or choose *Open CogniPage* from its menu. *Quit CogniPage* in the same menu stops it properly.

## Still stuck

Use **Send Feedback** in the sidebar — it reaches us with your app version attached — or email [support@cognipage.io](mailto:support@cognipage.io). Telling us the platform, the version at the bottom of the sidebar, and what you were reading when it happened gets you a useful answer much faster.
