What CogniPage does
The four steps every page you read passes through, and what the app is doing at each one.
CogniPage is a desktop app that reads along with you. You keep reading whatever you already read — a web page, a PDF, a lecture, a paperback — and it quietly turns that reading into flashcards, quizzes and a review schedule, so that what you read is still there in a month.
There is no inbox to fill, nothing to upload and no cards to write. The only habit it asks of you is the one you already have.
The loop, in four steps
-
Read
You open something and read it. CogniPage watches the window you approved and keeps the paragraphs you actually dwell on — skimmed navigation, sidebars and comments are left out.
-
Capture
Those paragraphs are grouped into a material — one per document, page, video or book. The material is where everything about that source lives.
-
Recall
AI turns the captured passages into flashcards and assessments, written from your material in its own words rather than from a generic bank.
-
Retain
Each card is scheduled to come back at the moment you are about to forget it. Answer it, and the schedule adapts. Over weeks, that turns reading into memory.
The parts of the app
Down the left of the window is everything CogniPage does. Each has a page in this manual:
| Where | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Home | Today at a glance: what is due, your streak, and how much you have built so far. |
| Materials | Every source you are learning from, and the document CogniPage wrote from each. |
| Flashcards | Your cards, and the review session that keeps them alive. |
| Assessments | Mixed-format quizzes built from a material, graded and diagnosed. |
| Notes | Your own writing and saved highlights, filed and linked for you. |
| Suggestions | The single next thing worth doing, and why. |
| Reflection | Daily, weekly and monthly write-ups of what you learned. |
| Analytics | Five views over your memory, including the Knowledge Map. |
| Settings | Tracking, notifications, watch-along and card generation. |
| Account | Sign-in, plan, AI credits and billing. |
What needs an account, and what does not
CogniPage is offline-first. Capture, scheduling and reviewing the cards you already have all run on your own machine with no connection and no account. Two things need one:
- AI features — generating flashcards and assessments, grading, reflections, suggestions and the KWL analysis. These spend AI credits.
- Sync — carrying your materials and progress to another computer. See Sync and multiple devices.
CogniPage asks about each website, document and video separately, and reads only the text of windows you approved. It never records keystrokes, never opens your microphone and never stores screenshots. The full account is in How capture works.
Where to go next
If you have not installed it yet, start with Installing CogniPage. If it is already open and you want it working in the next ten minutes, go straight to Your first reading session.
